were moving to oz in four weeks,,we are lucky enough to have someone to put us up when we get there.that will be in maylands..but...
what next?
we think we know where were going to live in perth but were not a 100% sure..what do we do about the kids and school..do we just keep them off until we settle?
i presume that most of you would of had a couple of weeks off until you got settled..
any tips would be great....
thank you

there are school holidays in June July here dont know the exact dates as I am in Qld....IOM I would give them time to settle but not too long as they will get bored. We came the end of June and they had two weeks before the new term started which was ideal. Although by the time their long holiday in Dec came they really needed it as they had missed their 6 week UK school holidays
thank you...

keep them off marcus until you have a rental. no point getting them enrolled in school and then moving them. Spend the first week having a good drive around all the areas you had considered and take it from there.

Hi Astons
We've been thinking about this too - won't get there till September though!
As a teacher here in the UK I always feel that the best time for 'new kids' to arrive in school is a few weeks into the term or before the term ends. The first day of a new term is usually manic anyway, with existing pupils in a frenzy to catch up with each other since their holidays. Pitching a new kid into this could leave them a little bewildered and overlooked. However, when a new pupil arrives during a mundane week, they are instantly noticed and taken under a wing as a novelty. Friendships soon begin to blossom.
So we're trying to time it so that we have a few weeks to find a rental (staying with relatives until then) and to chill, then get our daughter into school with hopefully 2 weeks of the term left so that she will do a bit of socialising before the 2-week holiday and maybe build on them with a few meet-ups in the 2-week break.
Inez
P.S. Here's the term dates for when you arrive for Perth:
Term 2 Commences
Monday 23 April - Friday 6 July
Break
Saturday 7 July - Monday 23 July

Apparantly, legally you have 3 months to enrol them into school (unless you are going to homeschool) so don't rush them unless you are sure you like the area as we did and our kids couldn't wait to start....
