Are the Somalians, with apparently limited limbs (from another poster) and poor english also capable of offering the same contribution ? It was a question...........chill out ! |

Australia despite the common notion that it only takes white poms from manchester and surrey  , also takes immigrants and refugees from 229 other countries. Included among them are a great deal from africa, not just refugees but immigrants too. If australia chooses to offer a few thousand places to people who are fleeing a life most of us cant comprehend then well done australia. Most countries take some humanitarian cases, australias no different. Besides 19. 5 million of the 20 odd million people who live in australia are not aboriginal, they are from immigrant stock, australia takes who it can get from where it can get them. The only people on here really saying who should be allowed to come in and whos flippin superior  to someone else should be the aboriginals after all they are the native australians not us. |

If you dont have a problem with Somalians and non english immigrants then what is your point about them  As for immigration, Difficult compared to what? would a hairdresser, builder, bricklayer etc get into the United states or indeed how many people who qualify to immigrate to aus could get into the USA at all. Waiting times, we know aussies emigrating to Canada, the processing time is up to 5 YEARS. Makes australia look pretty easy by comparisom. |

You said "australia takes who it can get from where it can get them." and my question was "However if Australia does indeed take who it can get from where it can get it, why is it so difficult for people who are paying to get there ???" Refugees do not go through the costly immigration process, so why is it so difficult for those paying ??? I'm not comparing to other countries, I'm asking about Australia, not Canada or anywhere else. |

I am sure the average refugee would swap the atrocities or horrors they had to go through to end up in a refugee camp for your one year wait and a few days of paperwork. I dont actually think people get themselves into a refugee situation thinking , oh yeah might wake up today, have a few family members die, lose a limb or two as you so charmingly put it, become homesless, own nothing bar a few rags, starve the children, go through a war or two, oh look now I can get into australia  Too easy. |

As for what they go through !!! Maybe Australia does get the truly needy ones. (I will add I spent a long time working with ethnic minority communities, Somalian being a very large one and I have been informed by them all of the terrible time they had getting into the country they chose to end up in !) |
