44c rate stays for the moment, Newman already tested the water by leaking that the whole shebang was going to be scrapped. A quick back peddle was done and now he wants to charge us solar owners for upkeep of the infrastructure i.e he wants to tax us for installing solar panels.
This type of nonsense is why solar simply hasn't taken off here, despite the abundance of sunshine. In Germany the feed-in rate was guaranteed by federal law for 20 years - so investors have a clear time frame to work with and and clear expectations as to their investment.
In QLD and NSW, the governments keep tinkering around the edges and moving the goalposts - nobody is going to invest in the infrastructure in that sort of environment, unless they are using it directly. Needless to say, the upkeep tax will be on all solar panels, and not just on solar panels that are feeding-in - so unhooking it from the grid and connecting to batteries will probably not protect you...
