Anyone had a proble with Skype? It's our lifeline to the UK and Skype are more than useless with helping unless you are a paying customer. My account seems to be blocked. Can't make or receive calls. I'm not very computer literate - any suggestions. All help much appreciated.

That was very helpful. Unfortunately it didn't work. It tried to connect but advises me to contact the network administrator - whatever that is.
Computers are like cars, great when they work, but god help you if they go wrong. Good try though.

What do you have as a Firewall on your Computer?
Do you have another Computer you could use in the house?
I'm guessing your using a PC?
Are you calling another PC user or a landline? If a landline you will need money in the account.
You might try restarting the router or modem you use to connect to the internet, (unless your at work and this would be a very bad thing to do).

Hi, I think your on the right trail as skype seem to think its a problem with a firewall although its been working fine for a few months now. The windows firewall is switched off and I have AVG for security. Not sure where to look, how or even if I should turn it off. I will try rebooting the router. Not tried that one yet! Its a home lap top, no other computers connected.
Will let you know.

Its unlikly to be Skype thats the issue then. Its more likly to be something with your setup or computer. If its on a laptop take it to a hotspot somewhere in the city (starbucks/maccy d's) and try from there to rule out your computer. If it doesnt work then its down to the machine you are using. Try your login on a different machine and see if it works.
Note if you are at work, alot of businesses block skype and IM applications / facebook, and there is nothing you can do.
If you are at home try a different PC if you have one - or your Iphone (Skype Ap) and see.
Does your account log-in at all?

I use it on a home pc. It won't allow me to log in at all. I think it may be my pc. It's a brand new one, so hopefully no problems on it. Im pretty sure its something simple, just when you don't know, you don't know.
Thanks very much for your input - its all useful.

Yippee, think we have got there. It is the AVG firewall that is causing the problem. If I turn it off it works. But then I'm not protected? Not sure what to do about that, but at least I know what is causing it. Thanks to all you kind people who helped.

you could use other providers of VoIPs. i live in thaland i use ConnectTalk, it's one of services by the operator AIS. the service is very good and there's many options to choose from. i bought one of their global number number (renting a local number in the uk and when my friends call me at that number they pay the local rate, while i pick up their call through my pc in thaialand). it's quite cheap. anyone living in thailand and have friends back at their home country should totally try it.
