Re: Sky+

I have been trying to find a price with these packages for the box. Austar I can only see instillation price, and cost per month, and the same with foxtel, although foxtel say they own the box. So when you cancel they get it back? Does anyone know what happens if it breaks while you have it?
Any opinions on which is best?
Thanks

Re: Sky+

We signed up with Foxtel yesterday. The 3 channels we have managed to tune on our television we can hardly watch. Foxtel are offering until Jan 31st:- Full package for 1 month free and free installation. Just before the month is up we can drop down to whatever package we want. We have taken out the equivalent of Sky + and if we drop to the lowest package it will cost $37.95 fort he package and $15 for the box per month. The full package including sport and movies is $109. The deal they are offering is for a 24 month contract. We can't get Austel here so went with this option.

I was always under the opinion SKY owned their box too.

If you cancel FOXTEL, whats the point in keeping the box?

If it breaks, your contractural monthly agreement means its always under warranty

Re: Sky+

Can i explain for you the diffence between Austar and Foxtel?
Foxtel is in control of the cities.
Austar is in control of the whole country outside the cities.
90% of the cities are cabled and run by Foxtel but some new areas were not
cabled yet so they have a Foxtel Dish.
Austar has no cable and are dish only.
Austar buys the channels from Foxtel so the content is the same but as Austar is country you may have a few local stations that are different but everything else is the same.
When you arrive go to Foxtel web site type in your postcode and they will tell you if you are covered by Foxtel or Austar.
All boxes are owned by the company and if they go wrong they replace them.
Hope this helps?

No, you own your own box with sky, which is why they weekly try to sell you insurance. If they break you have to buy another one. They normally give the boxes away for free when you join, but you have to pay for the sky+ boxes (unless you recomend a friend in which case you both get one for free).

Same box, same software, then it will work I would think, technically. May need some reconfiguring though.
Different satellites does not necessarily mean it won't work. I could pick-up different satellites on my Sky+ box if I wanted to if i move the dish around a bit.
The more likely problem is how many channels can be picked up on the satellite but are encrypted so unwatchable without a viewing card (from the likes of Foxtel etc) ie, chargeable.

Best to try reading a more suitable forum, you could start here:
