Does anyone have ( or know of ) any success stories when applying via the Skill Matching Visa ( 134 ) ?

We have to go down this route and, in advance, I was wondering if anyone has any success stories. Also, does anyone know if it's acceptable to approach companies/organisations to see if they use the Skills Matching database ? Or would this be 'bad form' ?

I am short on points due to age (44) and having a 40-point skill ( office manager ), so it appears that this is our only hope.

I am rather worried because I have spoken to a few migration agents and they aren't at all encouraging about the chances of getting selected for a managerial/admin job.

Anyones' experiences on this would be very very welcome.

I haven't seen anyone with this particular visa and don't really know much about it to be honest. I was wondering though if you have approached employers directly out there. There may be someone who is willing to sponser you.

It's all very frustrating. We have recently come back from a holiday / recce in Perth with our sister/brother in law and we absolutely LOVED it. He is an electrician and looks likely to be snapped up.

I spoke to a friendly and helpful chap in Western Australia's Skills Migration Unit ( a state government body ) in Perth this week and he was very positive, but even if I secured a job offer I would be 5 points short of the requirement (110) for a Skilled Independent Regional visa.

Anyway, Skills Matching it is, so thanks again for the links. I'll have a look and see what I can do.

I'm not all that clues up on any of them visa's but there may be one that will be possible.

Dont get disheartened - few agents know / promote visa 134 and there is very very little info on this forum

We've applied to Tasmania for this visa and, as other half is a nurse, it has been very straightforward.

I think the 134 visa is actually much better than 136's etc etc as its still PR, costs less money, is no risk (if you dont get sponsored you dont pay) and is fast tracked. You have to commit to one state for two years which may put some people off.

I would phone the state immigration offices asap and have a chat about your occupation - I reckon this may be your sticking point (bar health/police checks). We phoned Tassie and the lady there actually told us about this visa, explained how easy it was and has been incredibly helpful ever since.

Thanks for that. Alas, my occupation is not on the required list for Western Australia.

I spoke to the W.Aus local govt people this week, but my occupation isn't on their priority list so I'll have to go down the Skills Matching route.

I'll have to be proactive and try and get someone to offer me a job.

I put my details on the skills matching database and was approached a couple of times by would be employers.
It was free to do so at the time, don't know about now. I had secured a position on an RSMS visa so couldn't take up any of the offers of employment.

Just thought i would as what you tink of Sydney in general. have you have ay trips along to Coogee beach or had a few drinks in the Coogee Bay or the Palace

We were there last year for just over a month and didnt want to come back

Yes I work at Coogee some days. I have spent many a happy hour in the Coogee Bay Hotel - the wine is good!! Not so keen on the Palace (a bit young for me and very noisy). The walk from Coogee to Maroubra beach is great, it was usuallyafter this I needed some sustenance of the alcoholic variety!
