Hi,

We've skied as a family for the past 2 years at Mt. Buller, Vic. Were very lucky with the snow, can be a bit hit and miss. We stayed off mountain at the Pinnacle Valley Resort, www.pvr.com.au about 20 minutes drive to the pistes. Don't expect huge european runs but you definitely get your snow fix, although it is very expensive. Saw a wombat ambling thru the snow whilst on the chairlift down to the carpark last year, which was pretty cool.

we went last year to Hotham, and as already mentioned, dont expect too much if you have done a few of the European ski resorts, but you can still have good fun. My eldest has snowboarded for a few years, and had lessons at Hotham, and they had him doing jumps/tricks after a couple of days.

We arrived on the first weekend of the season, and it started snowing the night we arrived. We couldnt ski for the first 2 days, but we still had a great time. We stayed in Dinner Plain about 10/15 minutes drive from Hotham. Not quite as open and cold as Hotham.

A friend of mine is in Buller this weekend on a working Bee at a ski lodge, and will probably get some skiing in. (4 weeks before the season officially starts)

Alternatively NZ has some proper mountains and slopes as good as anywhere in the US/Europe (obviously the villages and apres-ski is nowhere near as good as over there though, but then it's not in Aus either)
