We got 40kg ach for the 2 of us and Aimee who's 9 and then 10kg for Georgia who's an infant.
Our cases and bags weighed about 170kg so we we had excess baggage I rang Singapore Air and they told me that it was £33 per kilo over weight.
Needless to say we were gobsmacked!!!!!
So I rang a freight forwarder AFi in manchester and they charged me £145 for the case to come to Brissie the next day. We also had to pay $33 when we collected it to customs as they have to clear t through quarantine.
BUT thinking back, the case has cost us about £160 to get it here and the case cost about £20 anf the contents aren't worth much either, shorts, towels etc. oh and a big pacet of Huggies Nappies (I thought we wouldn't be able to get nappies in oz)

So just make sure you check the weight of your cases and think about the contents cos you can buy stuff here just bring your clothes.

We emailed in advance re the extra baggage allowance. The check-in guy did query how much we had at first, but we showed him the email and he went off to check with someone else and everything was ok. Our 3 kids had 40kg each, the same as us. I weighed all our bags on the scales at home and the weight was pretty accurate. We had 180kgs in total, so could have taken another suitcase and still been ok.
Tip - I took a photo of all our cases and bags on the digital camera just before we left. Had anything gone missing, it would have been hard to remember just which case it was - there were so many! To give you an idea of just how much 180kgs was - 1 huge suitcase, 4 large suitcases, 5 small suitcases, and 4 sports holdalls. Carry-on luggage was 1 vanity case, 2 briefcases, 2 camera bags, 3 rucksacks, 1 handbag and 5 coats. It took 3 trolleys to wheel it all through Customs, we were just so relieved they didn't pick our bags for a random search!
Be careful if using cabin-size cases that you can take on board with you. Hubby is a frequent flyer with Singapore Airlines, and they are quite strict on the 7kg weight - they will make you put it in the hold if it's overweight or oversize. Those overhead lockers really aren't for suitcases!
