Silliest reason for 'going back'
#17
A few years ago there was a guy who arrived in Perth and only lasted about 4-6 days before getting out of the country as fast as he could. I don't remember the details but I think he pretty much just arrived spent a couple of days doing nothing special and just didn't like the place. If I remember correctly the guy did return a year or two later and actually like it (for a while anyway). I think he's back in the UK now. Wish I could find the thread.
I also remember a couple (or family) who lasted less than a month I think and headed back to the UK while their container was still on it's way to Australia. I think they just didn't like it.
In any case I think it's silly to put so much time, effort and money into the move only to pack it in and less than a week or a month. Everyone has their reasons though and sometimes people panic or truly hate the place enough that they feel it's not worth staying and that's fair enough.

My son has a friend in England whose family have never been abroad. Took a day trip to Calais once but panicked and wouldn't get off the ferry.

There was someone who moved same time as me, last July, and they left within a week as they just didnt like it. I find that odd, that someone wouldnt give it a bit longer, but those other reasons like UK tv or a pint are not that odd. I think little things can make people feel homesick.

I know a family who recently packed up and went back to England. They had waited 2 years for Visa's and eventually moved here in 2009. Both had good jobs and daughter was in high school doing well. Reason for going back " I miss the soccer on Saturday afternoon's" and " I can't get a decent pint".
I also heard of someone going back because they missed English TV once, they hadn't even subscribed to Foxtel to catch up on the UK TV shown here. They actually missed "Eastenders and Emmerdale" which are both shown here anyway, all be it a few months late.
In both instances I reckon they were both lame 'excuses'. What's the craziest reason you have heard ?

I dont think you realise how encompassing football supporting can be.
It's a major drawcard to the UK and probably the only positive one I can think of at present.

There was some guy who returned because he'd forgtten to pay the milkman, he tried to pay online, but the milkman was some old fudy-duddy who didn't know a mouse from a grouse.

Thats the main thing I've missed in my 30 years here though. The Saturday football with my mates and the whole culture surrounding football. Now that it's been rekindled with the local team Melbourne Victory.. if they were to fold or the A league were to collapse then I could be back to square one.

It's funny but I used to miss Soccer AM, but they show it here now and I think it's bloody awful.

Funny how time away changes your perspective.

People saying they miss their mum seems silly to me but you'd have to know the mother to understand.
