Been 2 months since I got the shiny yellow-orange sticker.
Plan was to land a job in Australia remotely by sending out my resume saying that I'm now a PR holder. No luck so far, it seems like you gotta be there before they'll take your resume seriously. I'm into IT, by the way.
What do you think - should I quit my job, pack my bags, go there and look for a job? Risk being jobless for a few weeks or months?
Or should I stay with my job and keep spamming everyine in Australia with my resume. And only move when I find a job there?
A little voice in my head says "Look before you leap". Another says "Nothing ventured, nothing gained".
Anybody been there before?

Are you going to act on the outcome of the poll? I think if you are unable to make this initial decison you are unprepared for the move. Did you not think about all this before/ during your application?

Hi there
My experience of dealing with IT agencies here is that they really want to meet you before they will consider you for a job. I sent my CV off in response to loads of jobs but never got anywhere. It was only when I made appointments to meet with the agencies did I start to get interviews and job offers.
The IT market is very competitiive here right now and the agencies have a lot of people on their books - they are more likely to put someone forward for a job whom they have met, ahead of someone they haven't met.
Also, not all jobs are advertised - agencies don't need to advertise every single position when they know they already have several potential candidates on their books.
What I'm trying to say I guess is that you will increase your chances of getting a job once you get here and meet people. Don't be dispondent about lack of response so far.
Good luck

if it is just you and no kids and wife in tow, then i SAY GO FOR IT... what would you do if you were made redundant here... perhaps temp for a while etc etc... then do that over there...
dont waste that precious yellow sticker...
If I was an employer I would want to meet you first..
take the chance and make it work..
My brother went over to aus at the age of 16 and he is now in his 40,s ... through hard work he done very well for himself...and had a great adventure doing it...

Hi there,
My husband is in IT and we have a nine year old, and we have sold our house. He doesn't have a job lined up but we are going anyway. Its all part of the big adventure.

How long are you going to wait???? Life has a habit of speeding by..................... Go upstairs, pack your cases, phone the airlines and go...

Dex,
Go for it, you've probably a better chance securing a job if you in the country. I'm in a similar position (Electronic Engineer), we're heading out to OZ just after Christamas with no jobs lined up. We're both prepared to do anything initally and hope that something comes up and are both open to a complete career change. Go now before its to late.
