Default Short term room to rent in Darkin,Canberra

Hi there, Am hoping someone can point me in the right direction in this forum and would be grateful for any info you have.

I am a Brit living in the USA. My daughter is in Uni and her Student boyfriend is coming over to Canberra on a Student internship, from May to August. He needs to find a room to rent in an area called Deakin there. (Apologies if I spelt that incorrectly am working in the info given lol)

By any chance does anyone know of any reputable rental companies or estate agencies that specialise in rental there? I am searching on the web and having a heck of time finding anything that does not look a bit dodgy , re certain "find a room mate websites' etc. Am hoping to help him find somewhere half decent, safe and reasonable, especially if my daughter possibly plans on going over to visit him during his stay.

Any recommendations re estate agent rental companies or anything would be much appreciated.

Thankyou,
Jacq
p.s. Enjoy reading your forum ..I get a good laugh from some of the threads on here.

The rental site to watch is all homes but not sure how many very short term lets they have. If they are students they could try the accommodation service at the ANU or University of Canberra - they are more likely to have house shares or house sitting options.

Any reason why Deakin? If you are going to restrict yourself to a particular suburb it could be difficult to get a place and Deakin is one of the more expensive suburbs. Nowhere in Canberra is that far from anywhere else so if he is working in that area the public transport or cycle paths are pretty good from other parts of town.

The rental market isnt easy at the moment so if the place he is going to work at has some "connections" it would be good to see if they can arrange something before he arrives otherwise I dont fancy your chances of negotiating something with a real estate agent before arrival.

Edited to add The Gumtree also has ads

Many thanks Quoll that was a great help!

They seem to have found a couple of places, though rentals do seem to be few and far between even in the surrounding areas especially ppl wanting room mates for sharing. He has to be on the bus route for work and everything, as his internship is in Deakin. Anyway am wafflling now...lol

Once again thank you for the info, it gave us much more to search with.
