Shock at the dentists!!
Hi Everyone,
My youngest daughter(3)had been referred to the Dental Hospital in the city, her appointment was today,Consultation Fee-$50.
Louise has been on medication for bowel problems since she was a month old & the medication has caused bad tooth decay.
Anyway we have to take her back on the 1st June for treatment, she needs to have a general anaesthetic for treatment consisting of x-rays,crowns,front teeth capped, teeth removed, flouride application, (+anaesthetic cost & theatre fee.)
Estimated cost $2768.00 :scared:
Glad hubby was sitting down when he was told the cost !!
We were told we can only claim so much of the $500 anaesthetic cost back from medicare.
A soon to be skint Mrs Madsad

At that price, it may be cheaper to go back to the UK and get it done there! (Everyone else does!! )

Yeah you won't see any dentists driving around in second hand cars.
My Mrs recently broke her tooth & was $1700 to repair. We had private health insurance but when we claimed the reply we got was "Sorry you don't contribute towards dental crown services".

But I agree that dentists can be expensive. Especially when being used to the UK system, of the cost being spread over all the taxpayers.

Re: Shock at the dentists!!
I sympathise - the dentist/hygienist/dental specialists/orthodontists are enough to send you into shock. We have also spent thousands on dental bills (despite going every six months for the usual check-ups).

Not meaning to be pedantic, but my understanding is that Medicare does not cover dental treatments. Were you referring to your private health fund?

Re: Shock at the dentists!!
Qld will do free fillings and basic uncomplicated extractions for free, if your child attends a state school, up to age 16 the caravan comes around about only once every 18 months tho.
In Victoria I think its about $25 for a vist up to grade 6 but its something, have no idea about other states but did hear Perth also had the basic dental caravan.
If you have a large family get private health cover, unless you want a second mortage as each year ticks over you can claim more benefits. I would NOT live in this country with 3 kids without it.

Under certain conditions, some costs incurred in some dental work is actually covered under Medicare, but only in unusual circumstances.

Hi Logan,
It couldnt be any worse than the toothache shes endured over the past couple of months ,my only concern is the fact she will be put to sleep for 2hours for the treatment,it seems such a long time.
