Talking Re: Shipping A Small Amount...

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

You have just made my day!! Was in a dilema as we are doing a little holiday on route to our new life and was sweating about how to bring some of my stuff (mainly bedding/towels/duvet/photos etc) - could i get the 40kg, could i leave stuff at airports endless questions going round and round in my head!!

Now I am booking a teachest box, one small suitcase with stuff not needed immediately and not having to sweat about luggage allowances and how to drag everything with when supposed to be chilling .

Bless you - Bless Seven Seas.

We used them to ship 8 boxes of stuff.....they do boxes in two sizes...tea chest and book case. We thought their prices were very reasonable compared to hiring a part container. They supply the boxes and collect them once you have packed. Took about 8 weeks for our boxes to arrive in Oz.

After the experience I had with them I would say definately DON'T use this mob. Being the cheapest certainly does not equate with being the best. After poor comminication throughout - I constantly had to chase THEM and their promises that they text you with updates etc are rubbish - it culminated in them leaving my 4 full boxes sitting on my sisters varandah, in full view of the entire street, on a day she happened to be away. Why? Because they hadn't bothered to notify us of a day of delivery, thats why. It was only luck that the lot wasn't stolen by a passer by!

Complaining and demanding an explanation got me no-where and I was told in the end "well you got your boxes didn't you"!!

I guess it is just your luck as not everything in life goes according to plan.

I found their communication to be excellent and they were very helpful in answering any questions we had. We didn't choose them because they were the cheapest (although it certainly helped lol) - we chose them because they were recommended to us by people on this site !!

We only had one slight hiccup and that was due to a misunderstanding by the contract delivery driver in Canberra. He delivered empty boxes to us instead of our consignment, because he thought we were sending a shipment not receiving one !!! One phone call to the Sevenseas office and it was sorted .... our boxes were delivered in excellent condition the next day.

I can only talk from experience and I would recommend them.

As I sit here typing, Excess International are filling large boxes full of the bits and pieces we're taking. Most of our furniture's staying here, but we've got lots of clothes, bedding, kitchen stutf, electrical equipment, computers and a couple of very good trestle office tables that we're taking. Costing us £1518.

Hi Wendy

My post wasn’t a personal criticism of your decision to use them so apologies if you felt it was; all I was saying was that based on my experience, I couldn’t recommended them to anyone. My comment about them being the cheapest was based on my decision to use them, whereas next time I will be prepared to pay a bit more and choose another shipper...although it does seem that for every shipper there are good and bad reports, which makes it very difficult to pick one!

I hope Paula that you have a better experience with them than I did! Good luck with the move.

Thank you for the good luck - will keep my fingers crossed - I must admit I am going to risk them purely as they are the cheapest (tight as a badgers ar*e me!). However now you have given me the heads up I will be checking up on the service a little more frequently - forewarned is forearmed or something like that. Most of the stuff will be nice to haves but not essential - werent going to bring them but now have a cheap option so going to.

I appreciate all the comments good, bad or indifferent as give a more balanced view.

I hope you are settling in well over the pond! Cant wait to get there!

No probs. Maybe I was just terribly unlucky, I guess it can happen with any service - I've always found my bank brilliant, for example, but my friend who used them ended up switching to another bank as she had no end of problems! Anyway, it's a good idea being extra dilligent and if you can afford insurance on your shipment I'd recommend it just in case.

I hope you have a fantastic time in Oz and settling in goes smoothly. I'm still here in the UK BTW, I'm hoping to move back in 2007 with my English boyfriend....the reason I shipped a lot of my possessions home was because I was moving house here and didn't have the room...so now it's in boxes cluttering up the spare room at my parents in Oz!

I didn't take it as a criticism at all......it is good to hear both sides of the story so to speak. It means that people can then make an informed decision and they know what pitfalls to look put for. It is certainly true that what some people think is brilliant others will think is crap....lol.

The price I paid for my consignment included insurance......I certainly wouldn't advise anyone to risk it without insurance.

Anyway I hope that anyone who is in the process of having stuff shipped over has good experiences (no matter whom they choose to use) and that their belongings arrive safely.

We used voovit.com and they are pretty cheap, only thing is you may have to pay some tax when you collect it in Oz. They ( voovit) charge 60 quid a box ( or did when we used them last year).

Probably a crap question but I have no idea about shipping, im only looking at taking my stereo and some other crap (ps2, tv and thats about it)

stereo etc values at about 400 quid, so might wana take it, but wouldnt pay more than 150 quid because thats all I would loose from selling & rebuying.

Ill be suprised if they dont offer small containers for people who arnt taking tonnes of stuff.

Surely thats a market somones serving!?

So <£120? Yes or No will do
