Default Shipping quotes - a bit high??

Hi all,

We have been given a couple of quotes for shipping from Allied Pickfords and John Mason. Both estimated 590 cu ft and have charged approx £2900 without insurance. Does this seem steep because I have just read a thread from someone who was quoted £1800 from Allied for 500 cu ft. Does an extra 90 cu ft work out at £1100 or are they trying to sting me??

Could I haggle these prices and are they likely to bring it down?

Any thoughts.

Emma

hi emma,we have had three quotes. The highest quote rang us and asked me what i thought.I told him that it was too high especially compared to the other one.He has brought it down 350 pounds so far.He seems really keen to get our custom and he probably will. The reason being is because he is on the ball and he is really trying to help.x irish

We have just had 2 companies out and are waiting on another 2 for next week. Pickfords came in at £2800 and excess bag. came in at £2500 this was for 590 cu ft . both packing included and door to door (newcastle to brisbane) excluding insurance.. i thought that this was to much but we are waiting on the others and i reckon that they will be somewhere the same, so it must be the going rate. i was expecting to pay no more than £2k tops !! think a revisit to the inventory of things being taken is due to bring this down !

out go the sofas, kitchen appliances etc.. and all the clothes that you probably wont ever fit into or wear again. Kids furniture and toys + beds are a must though!
