Shipping Advice
Hi, we're going to shipping our stuff out next April to Brisbane from Scotland. This questions for all the folk that have been through this saga and are know in OZ.
We've had quotes so far for door to door plus the insurance, that seems okay but has anybody come across "hidden costs" at the other end when your items have arrived, like quarantine, customs and fumigation?
(What do they really like checking for?)
Reading the thread about the Jeyes Fluid made me wonder how clean everythings going to have to be before it gets packed and what are the most important things to clean so thoroughly to eat my dinner off them.
Malx:scared:

Re: Shipping Advice
You have to pay quarrantine clearing costs and fumigation if anything needs cleaning.
We had storage for 3 weeks also and it all amounted to about $650.
cheers

We had to have the base of our Christmas tree cleaned and that cost about $24, cheaper than a new tree.
Things from the garden have to be VERY clean but I think we got over stressed by it and left things behind that we didn't have time to clean thoroughly. If that happened again I'd take a chance and ditch them here if need be.
I didn't have time to clean the studs from the kids footie boots so took them out, shipped the boots and cleaned the studs later and put them in our luggage. The bikes, scooters etc we just hosed down in the garden and gave the tyres a thorough scrub, they were all okay.
Customs are likely to look at boxes marked garden & Christmas so make sure they are okay.

How sad am I? I spent about 3 hrs scrubbing "Wilco Special" terracota pots that cost about 2 quid each. Got so pissed off that I couldn't be arsed to do the decent ones so Wilcos came and pretty one got left for the Pratts (folk who bought our house)!!
