Default Ship TV or not

Hi

We have been tossing up whether to take telly or not. It is a JVC only six months old and dont know whether it is worth taking it or not as will it work over there? Have heard you can buy freeview boxes are they available in bris and could we use that as a tuner instead of the built in aerial in tv? We also have a dvd recorder could we use the freeview with this too?

So would it be worth taking it or not? Any opinions would be welcome.

There's lots of threads on this one... I'm sure that if it's only 6 months old it will work OK... And if not the freeview box/Foxtel will sort it out...

I brought 3xTVs and 1x DVD recorder over with us but, in retrospect wouldn't bother if I did it all over again. They'll both work with an external tuner (set top box, PVR, DVR recorder, VHS, whatever you choose), as you mention, but CRT TVs are incredibly cheap here, and you run a significant risk of your TV being damanged en route.

However gently the TV is handled, it may still be damaged in transit, most likely resulting in discolouration in the image somewhere on the screen. (1 of ours ended up this way, the other 2 didn't). My advice is to sell your current one for what you can and buy from new when you arrive.

Hi
Very good points, handling in transit can cause probs, ours was actually broken after waiting 4 months for it to be delivered!!! Had to buy new anyways and really wished we had sold it b4 leaving.

So, like you say, if its a CRT they are thinking of bringing, then yes, I wld def sell it and buy new here. As for the DVD Recorder, same goes really. Depending on your budget, you can get a half decent one with HDD capabilities really cheap now. Set Top boxes are also very cheap depending on what you require from one of course. The more features it offers the more you pay.

Good luck
:-)
