Have you asked the US dealer if they will ship? Sometimes they will if you email them.
I bought my Janome from SewingMachinesDirect.com and they delivered it to Poland. I have checked the site and there is no mention to Australia, just Europe unfortunately. But they are a great company, very helpful (my machine arrived within 2 days), they may do a special request. (it is £699 with them).

I brought mine home from the usa in my suitcase- I love it. If you go to https://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/
and possibly the Janome company (I trust Sears USA) you can order it and safely have it shipped for less.
If, by chance, you have a friend or relative you trust in the USA they can intercept it for you and keep the shipping down SOMETIMES.
The adaptor is available through Dick Smith- I have two. They look like a small black box and are very safe -I needed a safe one because of other electrical equipment like my computer. At the time it cost $86 au.
All the other parts are available through sears too- cheaply
Good luck with this. Kathy

Both the voltage and the frequency are different in the US, ie 120v, 60Hz.
Here it's 240v 50Hz.
It will depend on the machine and its motor what you will need. It possibly could have a dual voltage option, but probably not for a sewing machine.
This is the sort of thing you will need - not a neat little adapter.

You could contact Janome and ask for technical details of the US machine.
