there must be a lot of cheap houses somewhere if that is really the median.

where are all the cheap ones?
I used to live in Mount Gravatt East and it was classified in 'Brisbane West'.

I always thought it was odd because not only is it south of the city, it's also EAST of the city!

As I said, west of the suburbs I mentioned, there are no houses apart from a few in the Forest and they won't be cheap.

I hope people realise that when discussing Brisbane house prices that the figures are based on a huge area and that many 'suburbs' are an awful long way from the city centre.

We come under city of Brisbane out at the centenary suburbs. 12km from the cbd. Houses out here are around these figures and would qualify as west brisbane. Have found it a very good area to live and much overlooked. you will get a decent home out here for that price and whilst the homes haven't rocketed in price over the years, neither have they dropped dramatically with lows in the market.
I do appreciate that some people want to be nearer the cbd but in my case this is not a problem, in fact a positive

You'll be hard pushed to find houses in that area with asking prices of $380k, that much is true.... but it's very easy to find wooden shacks, sorry I meant "desirable queenslanders that need a bit of work done", with a true value of approx $380k. Though I'm sure their owners would never agree.

Since when did houses ever sell at their true value?
