Default Schooling

Hi all, I have a question about schooling here in Australia specifically in Melbourne. My partner and her child is living with me and he is on WB / 020 visa and it’s been grant. My question can he able to attend public high school without being charged international fee?

Bridging visas carry the same conditions as the original visa so if he entered Australia on a visa which charged him for schooling then that will continue.

Well I still don’t know if they will charge him or not because he can be legally be employed but not be able to study like other residents?

As Quoll has already advised you, whether or not he pays for state school education depends on what visa he held before he applied for his new visa. What visa did he have before going on the bridging visa? Did that visa allow him to study in state schools without paying fees? If it did, then he doesn't have to pay fees while he's on the bridging visa. If it didn't, then he does have to pay fees.
Go to page 4 of this document, it will give you all the information you need https://www.education.vic.gov.au/Doc...schstudfee.pdf

I'm not sure Victoria has a mechanism for charging international students higher fees?

Hi Buzzy, at the end of the link I provided there's a table that shows which students pay international student fees and which don't, based on their visa type.

Ah OK thanks - I've learned something, the fees are paid centrally, rather than to individual schools.
