"...
Defence lawyer James Wood QC told the Court of Appeal: "Customs and Excise themselves imported vast quantities of heroin into the UK under the system of so-called `controlled deliveries'.
...
Four of the men - two from Manchester and one each from Birmingham and Bradford - have served their jail terms, and a London man was granted bail last year pending appeal.

They all say they were wrongly accused on the basis of information from paid informants whose rewards from C&E were often so great that they were prepared to "set up" innocent people.

A hanging offence no less.
I have heard of people who go to Bali twice a year cos they like the place and its a cheap holiday. Surely they don't all have "retail connections" as you put it? If she had taken regular trips to nth Thailand or Burma or sth America then that could be more suggestive of illicit activity.

If you are going to prove the most serious charge of dealing, it would normally strengthen your case if you had some evidence of where an alleged trafficker was going to dispose of the goods. Open a stall on the beach to get rid of 4.1 kg in two weeks or meet known dealers (whom the trafficker also knows) to transact business in dark places?

What market was Schapelle supposed to be in? Wholsale or retail? Where are the customers in Bali.

Miranda Devine is no softie. http://www.smh.com.au/news/Opinion/F...?oneclick=true is what she thinks.
