is this correct?

my partner and i have been together 8 years and have 3 kids together - we dont intend to get married, but are applying for skilled independant on my qualifications.as we are in a de facto relationship, and I know they need lots of proof we are 'together' and intend to stay that way - will we need to do these stat decs too? (missed that bit when I read the app form!)

We are married and we had to do them!

They are just meant to be statements made by people who know you well to prove your relationship is genuine, and ongoing.

We had to do them also. We have been together 9 yrs and have 2 kids. You also have to get loads of proof, such as bills, correspondance, wedding/party invites etc. to proove the relasionship(wheres the spell checker?) These all have to be photocopied and signed by a solicitor as proof of original. Very time consuming a real pain to have to go through. One solicitor quoted me £90 to just sign these copies. God some solicitors are so up themselves. Got another solicitor to do the signing and he charged me £15. So shop arround for you solicitor.

We put in our application at the begining of June 2003 still waiting for them to ask for the meds.

It will say in your application info...

Normally yes, for a spouse visa you will need at least 2 different statuatory declarations.
