We've had two - both of which have gone badly wrong. The current one's in a right old state - cord retractor's shagged, on/off button has ceased to function (jammed on), lint brushes on the end of the arm headed south months ago. Almost certainly wouldn't buy another one - especically since lots of other manufacturers now do 'cyclone' and 'bagless' models. Oh, and apart from anything else, he sold out his loyal workforce in Wiltshire and moved his entire operation to the far east to use cheap labour.

I have laminate (yeuh it came with the house) in the main living areas, dyson-fantastic, carpet in the bedrooms which i have just discovered are blue it's so long since they were hoovered properly i thought they were grey, the theatre room has concrete as we lifted the laminate and will put down carpet, but for now it is dust free concrete, the patio is paved and the dyson is fab for getting the dog hair off it and the spiders out from under the top of the fence.

According to the dyson doc, a main reason for them packing in is water getting into the gubbins usually from filters not being properly dry before you put them back in.

having now done the whole house the novelty of having it back has worn off and it wont be out again for a while!!

Didnt think how good it will be for spiders..... we had a massive spider last night, it crawled out from under the TV unit which is sort of built-in under the stairs!!!!!! Malc got it in a glass and put it over the neighbours fence in the hope it will live in their house instead and then said "But that's not a big spider, wait til you see the huntsmen!"

Really I thought I was getting much better with spiders but this one was enormous and I looked like this: :scared:

I just bought an upright for $699 and am waiting on delivery, from Harvey Norman. It's purple :) but I'm not sure of the model :p

Im not scared of spiders in the least...and would normally leave most of them in the house if the wife did'nt complain.

The only ones i kill on sight are the white tails....

HOWEVER..... even though im not scared of them...it still gives me shudders when i send them through the tube of death in the vaccum. They actually rattle thier way down!

Can we define this thread a bit with opinions on uprights and on cylinders. I have an upright as I have two dogs and carpet. I think the rotating bar makes less work for me than having to push a cylinder head :)

I'm glad it's not only me who chucks them over the neighbour's fence..!!

And, to keep within the scope of the OP, our Dyson works a treat on spiders... it's great to see them clinging on to the wall as the suction gets closer... and closer... :scared:

We weren't taking our hoover as it's seen better days, maybe we should buy one before we leave as it'll be cheaper.

Oh crap - we washed our Dyson filters the night before the packers came - we dried them off with hairdrier and towel and bunged them back in - hope they were properly dry :eek: Or it might not work when we finally get it back in Brisbane!!!
