Default Renting In Queensland

How much is the average deposit/bond on a rental?

A month, 2 months????

Have tenants similar legal protection as in the UK?

Cheers

One month deposit and 2 weeks rent in front. The deposit is held by the RTA not the rental company and is returned when both you and the rental company are happy with the way you have left the property. they have a good website

yep.
You have pretty much the same protection, but it goes without saying that you should watch your back with all rental agreements, I've heard some horror stories.

Advice we were given was to record evidence of every mark scratch or dent in every wall!

We managed to borrow a video camera and did a shot of every room before we moved in.

when we moved out the real estate agent pointed out some old marks on the skirting etc etc...

Once we told her of the video....she completely changed her tune and told us not to worry...we then rushed out and got our bond back on the same day!
