Re: renting with pets?

Apparently the pounds are full of pets because the owners can't get new rentals that allow them. If you are allowed a pet and then kicked out (owner sells, puts rent out etc) and you can't get another pet friendly one then it is very sad that your pet has to go to the pound and then maybe even put down.

Problem is in some apartments the strata laws don't allow them so even if you had a pet friendly landlord the building won't allow them in.

Most damage can be repaired even if it costs the tenants and I'm sure the owners wouldn't object to a new carpet or other new things!

Whatever happens I'm not giving the dog up. I will stay with mates until I find a rental if I have to.

ahh with regards to this particular area of pets and renatal possibilities or lack of, are we talking third world ideas or new world ideas, its all so xxxing antiquated. Lie if you have too, then save hard and get a mortgage where YOU can dictate what you have in your house.

We have rented a place in South Brisbane with our dog and it was not a problem.

Moved and within a week our dog had picked up fleas. The previous tennants also had a dog and they left us a nice little gift!

When I move again I'm going to treat the new place for fleas before I move in. (Not that I think I'll be moving anytime soon - am looking to buy and it seems as hard to find something as it does to find a rental)

its shocking when people dont tidy up after their pets eh, i.e. not defleaing.

The tenants before us had 2 German Sheperds and they have ripped some of the sills off the windows and the tenant didnt bother to fix it. IN saying that, they didnt bother to clean the property either....neither did the landlord lol

why does a pet have to go to the pound and possibly get put down if you dont find a pet friendly rental? It doesnt...those ar ejust crap owners who realy dont care about their animals.

If I did not have a pet friendly rental in time, then I would sleep in the car with mine until one was found, our put them into a kennel temporarily.

I would NEVER leave my kids at the pound...if I cant find a pet friendly rental then its not a house I want to rent anyway.

I must admit i read an article somewhere also that this was happening, it was quite a while ago i read it and think it was talking about brisbane at the time.

We honestly feel the same about our dog, we love him to bits, and honestly i am getting him his shots for rabies soon, just incase we end up without a rental, i would rather return to the u.k than put him in the pound, but please believe me IT IS A NIGHTMARE trying to get a rental that allows dogs.

I really wish we could afford to buy to allievte the stress of renting, this new rental we're in has been a complete nightmare!

It's not just rentals.

We're currently looking to buy in Sydney and it seems most apartments are not pet-friendly or at most I'm told by the more enthusiastic agents that you can apply to the strata corp to keep pets.

We're not prepared to take that risk so may well end up out of town to get a house.

I know whats it's like getting a rental with pets...I dont own a house either.

But it can be done and I just cant understand why anyone would leave their beloved pet at the pound because they didnt get a rental that allowed pets in time. They should just work it out.

If you (not you lol) are the type of person who would dump their pet because you didnt find a pet friendly rental in time then you really shouldnt be getting a pet in the first place - ya know?!

I do agree with you, but if it came to having a roof over my childrens heads (and i believe it can at times here) , then i would have to think seriously about the dog! but i hope that would be a complete, extreme circumstance, coz we would move to the end of the earth rather than give oor wee dug up

There is no way on this earth that my cats would go to a pound and be put down because I was having a bit of trouble finding a rental!

If other people are doing that then it is their decision. Not in Australia yet but many UK landlords don't want pets either, but it is alway spossible to find one who will because they are out there, just takes a bit longer.

I'm with you on the sentiment but I can assure you it can be more than a "bit" of trouble. I went through it finding a rental and I'm going through it buying; it can severely limit one's choices.

Just a turn of phrase. Actually, I know it will be difficult and limiting, just as it is in the UK, but in the end something will turn up. :fingerscrossed:
