Default Renting in Brisbane

Due to arrive in Brisbane with the wife and 2 kids 1st May and will be staying with friends for the first few weeks. Hopefully will pick up a IT contract initially but am concerned that rental agents will not consider us if I do not have a job. We have money in the bank and can pay several months upfront if required but am after any advice/experiences with what happens when you first arrive and need somewhere to rent. Looking to move to the Wakerley/Lota/West Wynum areas.

when we moved to Adelaide no one seemed worried about OH not having job as they understood the situation but we did always offer to pay rent up front which seemed to help.I know that was Adelaide and not Brisbane but would have thought it to be similar set up.

i am in same boat we can pay our rent up front for the first year easily and even the 2nd i think it would get a bit difficult like anywere else in the world when you can only just pay the first month

but if you can easily pay the first 6 months i cant see there being a problem.

Hiya ... no problem with rent ... you will need to put down a bond (4-6 weeks rent) and if you pay say 3 months up front you shouldn't have a problem ... but you will need to move quickly when you see a place you like ... the rental market's pretty tight ...

Where you're planning to live Wynnum / Lota you're on a train line into the city ... 35 - 45 mins ... the majority of IT contracts are in the city.

I contract in the city doing commercial IT work, rather than technical ... the agencies are unlikely to look at you until you're actually here ... use seek.com.au, it2.com.au, careerone.com.au to see what's out there ... there is a fair bit ... it's sometimes tricky getting your first contract thereafter it's easier ...

Hope it works out ... David

Varies a lot depending on the standard. Have a look here:

http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin...r&snf=rbs&a=sf

Search for suburbs like Brisbane CBD, Fortitude Valley, New Farm, Spring Hill, West End, South Brisbane.....

These are all very close to the City...there are many more also close by.
