I will take the passport and run...Just 11 months to go from FarUnder. There is nothing interesting to spend my time here any more, been here, done that.
I arrived in Perth 13 month ago. Still cant find anything in my field with Msc degree in IT. Before dot.com boom, I worked in Germany, the Netherlands and E. Europe, so there is some experience. I cant see that economy here will be better just because it is based on "resource curse". Yes, credit lines are very good, the meaning of that is that Au is in debt more than ever. Only the Netherlands and USA are more in debt. But, they run world economy, not localy oriented mining and agriculture.

Well i put my foot down and said we are going back this year. However my Ausralian husband is probably correct in thinking OZ economy will continue to go up more yet. (Dollar/property) So we have agreed to another year. Make hay while the sun shines I suppose. Some days I think I am mad, however a glass of red and my "annual release for good behaviour" as he puts it (Trip to London) get me through. Look out Gap 151 days to go.

If you truly think you have "done all thats interesting" in aus, in 11 months, you must be pretty shallow?

"<insert_country> is the best in the world, everyone has full employment, don't need to go anywhere else, schools are best in the world, no crime, no drugs, life is perfect".
because whenever anyone seems to post anything other than that they get slagged off. Despite the fact that a lot of the posters live or lived there and a lot of the slaggers haven't even been there?
I thought people come to this forum to learn about what these other places are like, not to be given a sales pitch that would make a timeshare rep blush.

No offence to you personally, but why don't you and some of the others here just create a "good news" forum where people will only post things like

Call it job satisfaction, call in work pride or whatever and that he has found that "a cushie number" does not provide this for him. I could go along that as to some there is nothing worse than being bored and under used/stretched at work - after all we spend a fair few hours at work. A "cushie number" for some people, myself included, would be slow torture. Also there is a lot more bureaucracy in Australia from what I can tell (don't know too much about that yet as obviously haven't moved yet). Having said that I am greatly looking forward to my move on 1 August with some trepidations.

PB has (I believe) been in the same job for 9 years and obviously he cannot find a better job either, only diff I can see is he's in private sector I'm in Public.
Your right about the bureacracy it's mind boggleing. if you can stand the boredom and get a permenant gov job you'll be made cos they virtually NEVER sack perm employees and the benefits are fantastic (I'm not one of these as I'm a contractor).

In general no .
Only one small regret though - we should have brought more capital with us when we emigrated instead of being so generous and giving away most of our household items (and some quite expensive to boot) to needy family relatives.
