Hi Nev,

I feel gutted for you.

Due to various reasons (don't want to get banned for slagging off people by spilling the beans but let's just say our agent didn't give us the best advice  ) but we've done 3 skills assessments. Anyway, after doing an RPL (not submitted), a TRA (not submitted), and then our third assessment (RPL) this one actually made it to the ACS and we passed. We've been despondent, we've been told by 2 agents that we wouldn't pass an assessment and (eventually  we did). However dire it may look now, there is always hope, we are living proof of that.

Chin up mate,

D D xx

So sorry to hear your news. I can sympathise as we got a call like that last year when Victoria rejected us for sponsorship. I was so gutted I couldn't even post on here to tell everyone for 2 weeks

But, we eventually dusted ourselves down, had a rethink and are working hard to reapply in the next couple of weeks. Some people say, if you want something hard enough it'll happen. Not so sure about that one myself, BUT, I do believe that if it's at all possible (and it sounds like in your case it is) then it's worth fighting for.

Hope you agent is able to find out enough to either aid a successful appeal or to help you get the info you need for a new submission.

Don't give up :D

The main issue here Nev is with your agent.

If they're credible and possess the necessary knowledge, they should never have taken your money and submitted the application.

The agent did contact me but unfortunately only to tell me that he had tried twice to call but got an answer machine, he will try again on monday. Watch this space.

Sorry to hear your news. My advice would be reapply and try to find out as much as you can re the documentation required for a successful TRA in your field before re submitting. One thing that concerned me was the fact that you are using an agent - surely they should have known that the application contained the correct data in the first instance? Is this not what you pay them for?

I was at a meet up last weekend and you would be amazed at the hoops and loops that some people have to go through to get a visa so if you want to live in Oz - get some good advice - dust yourself off and apply again.

Thanks Sue, in fairness to the agent he said he was as confused as we are because he has never had a refusal in our circumstances, hence he wants to speak to the person handling our file, anyway he tried today but no luck, just got answer machine but he will try again on monday. I will say that the agents we are using have very good press on this site thats why we chose them but i dont really want to get into the naming game. I must say that all the lovely messages from peeps has been a real comfort and im sure we will sort this out and laugh at it later.

Thanks again.

There you go Nev, thank fck for that.

Keep trying, and in only 5 years, you might be on the brink of a visa as well. :scared:

Get hold of your agent by the bo!!ocks (or throat if a women), and squeeze very hard until:

a. They give you a satisfactory answer to why they took your money and submitted the application without the knowledge of this rejection was a strong possibility based on your circumstances.

and.....

b. They give you a satisfactory answer on alternatives - without stinging you for more cash.

Who did you use?

Hey sorry to hear your news, but don't despair. There are quite a few of us who failed first time round but are now the proud owners of visas. I know how awful the feeling is, you feel all your dreams are in tatters, but you WILL get through it and what you are feeling now will be a distant bad dream.
Here's hoping your agent can come up with some good news for you.
Keep the faith

I have helped a few people with their TRA application and one thing I am sure about is detail...they want lots of it.Try to put something together that is virtually a manual on the subject. If you are trying to get in as a chef dont just say "I prepare all types of vegetables including carrots, cabbage etc" expand on it a little. For example, tell them where you buy your ingredients, how you choose them, how to tell if they are fresh, the prices you expect to pay, how long you cook them for and how, what cookers you use including the make and model etc.Remember the TRA is for people with all the experience but without the qualification so they want to be sure you can do the job to a high level of expertise. Also, present it well, add a contents page, diagrams, references and anything you might feel will help you.
When my best friend did his we produced a thirty five page project with photos, diagrams, references etc and he was applying as a self employed paint sprayer and he was accepted first go so try again and be very detailed in everything you send them.

Hi Nev,

Just wanted to say I am very sorry to hear you failed the TRA, but I just wanted to give you some words of encouragement.

In 1997 my Parents applied for immigration to Australia... under last remaining relative visa. All my Mums family is is Sydney so she wanted to join them, she did the application herself as well as the skills assessment for both herself and my Dad.

My Dad was refused as a welder.. My Mum passed hers as a Manager.
Things looked good, till there application was refused for immigration in 2000... The process took ages back and forth from Australia... not sure why but I believe it used to average about two years then

To cut a long story short they appealed the decision and it was again rejected... then they decided to take it further with a hearing in Canberra.. (not sure of the ins and outs....)

The point is they never gave up... they eventually got there visa granted in 2002 and moved straight away... after I got married that is. They are now settled and doing better then ever before I am so proud of their determination!

What is ironic is I was on the intial Visa as I was under 18 so I was included on their Visa as part of the family. I actually turned down immigration because I had fallen head over heals in love with my now husband... and so I never went to Australia to validate the visa.

Now 4 years later... I have a family of my own and we hope to be in Australia at the end of this year...if all goes well that is.

Motto of this story is:
'never Give up in something you want and everything happens for a reason'!

Good Luck and God Bless..... Nev

Hope I have made you feel better :)
