Default Recordable DVD

We are thinking about buying a multi regional recordable DVD player to take with us - any techno bods out there who can tell me any reason why not to?
Ie cheaper in Oz, won't work etc

Not sure if it would pick up Australian TV channels correctly ?

Not sure how prices compare, but I picked up an LG DVD Recorder for $350 the other month. (With a free 128mb MP3 Player) And I'm sure it's now dropped in price

PS:
Someone else bought one on July 5 for $290 !

We were thinking about getting one to bring too - thy have them in Asda in the UK for £99
