As far as I know they are concentrating on the southern link to mandurah. So any development of the northern line may be a bit longer off. Currently it runs as far north as Clarkson (newish suburb with a lot of solo mums and hoons)

There's a lot of debate about where to put the freeway, as the burb of Conolley is nearby, but I think it is due to go up to Butler and that it will happen after the planned Southern extension. One of the posters made an interesting point about not being able to go out East to Midland from the Northern Burbs and that is a problem, but consider the fact that many of the burbs were much smaller 10 years ago and it takes time to put in infrastructure - a rail cut to the east would need a lot of consultation.
Perth might not be that great for single people wanting to go out somewhere different each night, but it offers a lot for young and growing families and has a lovely laid back feel to it. It certainly is growing on me.
Lake Joondalup Baptist School is a great primary to secondary school. Well behaved kids, good results and lets in a huge number of non-Christians.

It's costing 2 billion for the southern link. And while it may be ok for young families in initially, you will still find that most perthites aren't that friendly or want to know you. maybe ex-pat pom families might tho.

Good Luck anyway

Well, at first I thought that the Aussies weren't that friendly (bad experience with neighbours) but I'm starting to make quite a few Aussie friends. They are "shy" at first, which I interpreted as being "distant" but they are much friendlier once they get to know you. They also seem to be much less hung up on clothes, holidays, houses and such.

Depends on where you go and who you meet. I have found perthites the most unfriendly, distant, superficial, arrogant, pretentious people in OZ

Time will tell BUT I hope your experiences here are better than mine have been. having a Carlsberg as we type. Decent Aussie beer is as expensive or more so, so drink less often and enjoy the brew I say

LOL. Watch out tho: it gets too hot to exercise here unless you join an air conditioned gym

That's on my to-do-list! Funnily enough, when I was in the Uk I imagined I'd be out there doing loads of exercise but I have done hardly any since getting here, when it's 40 plus you don't even want to walk to collect the kids from school.

I guess they're a mixed bunch. The dice landed differently for me, and I must have stumbled across the good ones.

Compared to? You obviously haven't driven in SE Asia. That would give you a different perspective
