Hi All,
The wife, 9 month old daughter & I are looking to migrate in sept/oct 09 to Adelaide. We would obviously love to have a job lined up for myself for when we arrive, but from research I have done on this site & others, nobody wants to know until you either have date of landing or you are already there! I'm a qualified Engineer & my wife is a highly qualified nurse so hoping we will find work ok.
Was thinking of flying out say a month before we all go, for job interviews and do a recce. Has anyone done this or have any advise? I would stay at her aunties for aweek so it would be flight cost, hire car, & food. Was thinking if I did manage to secure a job then it would save us alot of worry & would pay for itself.
Any advise appreciated

I would like to say talk to a recruitment agent but for me and my husband they have been worse than useless (no offence to any) but as you have specialist skill (if those are the right words) then they may be more of a help.
This link might help but if you fell uncomortable clicking on it type immigration south australia (not sa as you get south africa) into google and go from there.
As for your wife I think she might be able to secure a job from here, maybe try sa health website out.
Hope this helps
as for flying over if it is only one of you it might be worth the money but some people do it as a couple with four kids and that would be too much

My advise is wait to you get here! Most wont entertain you until you are anyway! Most agencies are crap here in my experience so it is a case of hard graft yourself dropping off CV's yourself to companies you wanna work for, my OH did that and got 5 interviews in one day!! So it works!
Have a mate that secured a job from the UK and when got here was tied for a time to the company and hated it from day 1!! So just be carefull!!

My hubby is a mechanical / design engineer. He used Chris Lillas at James Gall recruitment - http://www.jamesgall.com.au/staffmember.asp?sid=3
Was 3 and a half years ago now but we found him really good. OH found work in 6 weeks.
Good luck with your search and move.
