Rainbow beach?

Anyone know what it's like?

Is there much to do?

Re: Rainbow beach?

fairly rough surf, very small high st. campsite (rainbow waters) about 2 km out of town which allows campfires and dogs and doesn't have postage stamp pitches (pitch where you like). Sand blow nearby. Fishing available. Good for a weekend or so. Much more is ambitious.

Thanks for that Safin:thumbup:

I've booked a 3 day weekend next month. Thought that was long enough:thumbup:

Are Eumundi markets far away? I've been meaning to go for years and not got there:blink:

Not actually done them but I think they're close enough. Friends have done them for a day trip from hervey bay so from rainbow must be a cinch!

Are there supermarkets / restaurants nearby?

Safin Sep 8th 2011 11:44 pm

Re: Rainbow beach?

Small (IGA type) supermarkets with limited opening.

Only a couple of simple restaurants. Nothing flash that I remember. But to be honest didn't really look hard. There are a few takeaways (indian/chinese /pizza). You won't starve but it's not gourmet.

So we'll fill up the car with booze and steaks and throw a prawn on the barbie:thumbup:

You got it! Chill out, have a tinny and you'll have a great time.

You staying somewhere posh or camping?

Re: Rainbow beach?

It's the kickoff point for awesome beach driving. Either head south along the beach to noosa (access rd just outside town a bit) or north along inskip point to the Fraser island ferry. If no 4wd i think they do day tours to Fraser these days.

Also wild dolphins show up at a spot in tin can bay near there.

Favorite pastime in the past for the locals was sitting in the pub and watching 4wd's coming up the beach from noosa sink in the surf while trying to get around the final headland - hence why the access road :) pub full of pictures of those who didn't make it.

One day will entail OH playing golf and hoping to head off to Eumundi markets. Heard there's great arty farty stuff and lovely food:thumbup:

The other days we'll just have a lazy time doing sod all, not working to any schedule. Is tin can bay far? Wouldn't mind seeing the dolphins:wub:

That's really cool mate, will defo have to get there. I notice the Queensland government only let people feed the dolphins at 8am though so not sure what time we'd have to set off to get there for that time:unsure:

Hi,

We had a lovely break at Tin Can Bay over New Year last year. The dolphins come it at around 7-8am each day, and there are a lot of kids queing up to see them.

They can buy a fish (for $5) to feed the dolphins, and it's far more 'relaxed' than Tangalooma.

We went to Rainbow Beach for the day, and thought it was a lovely spot, though the cafe menus were a bit 'ordinary'.

From memory the drive from TCB to RB is about 40mins.

Eumundi markets are very 'arty farty' and some of the stuff is really beautiful, but be aware that you might find the same thing at the West End, Eagle Farm, or Southbank markets for less $s. The food is wonderful, the parking's a nightmare so make sure you get there early.

Check too what day you're planning to go, because it's not always the 'whole' market.

Personally, I wouldn't waste over three hours drive there and back from Rainbow Beach. If you can't make it a 'break' in your journey home, why not give it a miss and take a detour to Maleny on your way back. Lot's of lovely shops there and some nice cafe/restuarants too.

It can't be the outback as it's outfront. :D You do know the outback is many hours drive west don't you? :)

The one road in/out splits to just serve Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach and they are both small places.

Re: Rainbow beach?

The pub on the main street, Rainbow Beach Hotel, is lovely for food, we ate there several times. We stayed at the campsite in town, it was spot on, decent facilities and you could roll home. We ate at the surf club one night and well, it wasn't very nice, but that could've been a bad night, don't know... There's also a nice wee restaurant down the side of the pub, down a wee walkway, it's a BYO which is always good!!! Tincan Bay isn't far away either and it was great for getting the kayak into the water and they did nice brekkies at the wee cafe on the corner...

Oh there's also this: http://www.rainbowbeachqld.com/carlo_sand_blow.html we didn't get to see it but apparently it's really nice, also some nice places to go but you could only access them via 4WD which we didn't have back then.
