Australian cities, particularly Sydney and Melbourne are very multicultural and you will find pockets of cultural groups in some suburbs. There isn't really any racial tension that im aware of. Sure there would be small minorities as with anywhere in the world, but as a whole, Australia is a multicultural society and it is widely accepted. I think the latest stat released last week was over 30% of Australians were born overseas!

Thank you all for your replies, I think the common thread is that it is no different to any other country, which is what I expected. From a previous visit to Melbourne a few years ago one of the things that struck me then was the diverse nationalities there. I hope to move to Orange in NSW very soon. Im sure we will enjoy the country and the people within.
