That sounds like a good price. Can you tell us the Company name etc and any tips on DIY Shipping.
The best price we have so far is £1,650.0 for self packing from door-to-port to Freemantle Docks - Perth

The extras we have to pay are marine insurance and customs, clearing and delivery the other end. Customs and clearing we're looking at around £350, delivery to aus address ????? (still getting quotes for that). We wanted a sole use container as Mark used to work for a haulage company and knows some of the probs of shared containers.

I think Crown is generally the favourite for for BE Users. All this shipping stuff is so confusing and the small print is too small to read - wish someone would just make the decision for me!

Do what I'm doing, sell it all and buy new there. New Life, new start, new things.
Ps. I haven't got lots of money, cos it does sound a bit that way does'nt it.

It all depends on the people at each end: Crown smashed IIRC some 27 items and the insurance claim was around $4000. The UK end was fine - it was the idiots who delivered at this end that broke things.
At least the Crown insurance paid out promptly.

Just in case any BE members are in the know, any idea of what household goods that fit into a space 125 sq feet might cost? Are we talking £2k, £3K or more?

Hi to all BE contributors. Happy New Year from all at Crown!
I continue to read your contributions to the site with great interest. Just wanted to respond on a few points you have raised in this discussion.
Firstly, my sincere apologies to any readers who have logged on to the Crown site and used the Quote Request function. We have had a couple of IT glitches which meant we were not getting all the requests through. We've got this fixed now. If you have recently sent a request through this method and have not recieved a response within 48 hours, please send me a personal e-mail with your address and phone number and I'll make sure we contact you by return.
Secondly the question of insurance. The moving industry went through a number of changes at the beginning of 2005, where the sale of insurance became regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA). There were a few different options available to moving companies to become registered. It would be in your best interest to ensure you are comfortable with the type of insurance being offered. Crown was one of only a couple who choose to become Directly Regulated by the FSA, meaning our insurance sales practices have been approved by them. We also have a policy specific to the movement of Household Goods. There are advantages of insuring with the mover, you should discuss those with your moving consultant before making a final decision.
Lastly, the discussion on differing pricing between moving companies. My only comment here would be careful that all the services you want are included in the price. I've heard of recent examples of where some companies have taken out some of the basic services to get the price down. This only leads to customer disappointment in the end, so be careful that like for like quotes are compared.

Weeeell, yes. Our experience with Crown was that they tried to double-charge us for storage insurance in Sydney when a certain time was already included in the quote, and they insisted that unpacking was not part of the contract and disappeared leaving all the boxes in the living room. We had also been told that they would come back for the packing materials FOC but then wanted to charge for that too.
