Default Question abut taking your stuff over.

Hello,

I was wondering what the score was on taking brand new stuff over. I migrated to OZ and loaded up a container full of, say, new oven, car, furniture etc, are you subject to certains taxes or fees? I think your are for a car, how long do you have to own the car for, or how old does it have to be until you are not subject to any finanial outlay?

Thank you,
P.

You have to have owned the car for a min of 12 months.

Taxman isn't interested in the rest. Even if the stuff you are bringing is all new they won't be bothered. Only time they may raise an eyebrow is if you had a dozen brand new 50" plasma's in the container.Any 'normal' looking migrants container will pass through customs easily.

I am looking to move to Australia at some point in the middle of next year with my family I am still in the early stages of organisation but i am using these tips from this company for guidance about moving my possessions.

http://residential.bishopsmove.com/m...uide/index.htm

Has anyone very used this removals company before? I am interested in getting some feedback about them.

Taxman probably isn't interested, but do declare your new stuff. Most posters on this subject who have declared new items haven't been bothered by customs.

Wish we'd had the resources to buy new and ship over... And had had a reckie. To find out what was stoopid expensive here and what wasn't... I wouldn't bother with a whole load of new electricals.. Apart from a dyson, coz the warranties for a lot of things become invalid once you take them overseas...

One thing I wouldn't bother bringing over at all is the fine dining stuff.. No Wedgwood dinner service and deffo no Edinburgh crystal... This is the land of paper plates, plastic drink wear and picnic baskets...
