No doubt great for the shareholders and that 1% of people who own most of the wealth... utterly shit for the rest of us. |

Re: Qantas...hmmmm....
Yep. The actual issue is corporate governance and the disconnect between corporate remuneration and performance. Healthy companies provide wealth in many ways.
Thankfully the private equity bid for Qantas failed. The debt would have killed the airline.

I think it is the way of the world. And it is not just the super-wealthy that have a stake in big organisations, anyone with, say, a pension fund most surely does as well.

Never fails to amaze me just how many people rock up and start blaming the workforce everytime there is a labour dispute. Are you people not part of the workforce??..... or do you somehow all see yourselves as 'different' from all those 'Socialist nut jobs' threatening industrial action?
No chance I suppose that they could just be ordinary people, just like the rest of us, currently scared shitless at the the threats from QANTAS to sack thousands of them and move their jobs offshore? |

Re: Qantas...hmmmm....
Dick Head, sorry Smith was on the TV this morning bemoaning the fact that 8 out of 10 Australians don't fly Qantas, he said they choose the cheapest but made it sound as though it was a crime. I am a very patriotic Brit but will fly Singapore Airlines every time if possible.

Dispute over. Planes back in air today. It will be mess and the bearded on will love it.

Unless of course you happen to be super wealthy... then of course you will just keep getting richer at the expense of the rest of us. Your pension is an example of that. You're taking the pain while being asked to bail out those who caused the mess in the first place. |

...and the pilots already know what happens next. "In light of the decision by Fair Work Australia, today's rally has been cancelled," Unions NSW secretary Mark Lennon said in a statement Qantas board got what they wanted - predictable outcome for the company (ie in XX days this is resolved, and guaranteed no future stoppages) now they can commit to stable service to the customers and customers can book with confidence. All the people saying they will never fly with qantas again are being a little emotional. Fact is they have the capacity and nobody else does so we all have to fly qantas if we travel domestically - virgin et al just cannot pick up the slack and dont have the same volume/quantity. Internationally as well Qantas has long had a worse service than Singapore in -cabin but their planes are still full - those seats dont appear from nowhere - nobody can put on that capacity permanently or immediately. Long term this will have next to nil impact on Qantas - but it does break the strike which was having a huge long term impact |
