Default Purchasing a .com.au web address

I have some web address which are .co.uk and .com addresses. I now want to purchase .com.au and I have purchased all my current sites through www.123-reg.co.uk. It appears that you can not buy .com.au addresses through this company. I am wondering if there are any special rules with regards to buying .com.au adresses. Ideally I would like to keep all my addresses under one roof through www.123-reg.co.uk.
Thanks, Regards, Shaun

You need an Australian Business Number to register a .com.au address.

As wendy said Auda require that you , for .com.au names have a ABN number.

There are certain domains, place names have just been released, that I think you do not need a abn for.

Best check their site, www.auda.org.au i think

I use www.domaincentral.com.au maybe cant remember, and TppInternet

read this

How easy is it to get an ABN as I would wish to secure the .au domain but may not commence trading as I'm just looking at the prototype/idea online business?

I think its pretty easy - as i remember all i had to do was produce a letterhead with business details and it was about £20 - going back 14 years though LOL

You do get a nice certificate though for your money and it enables you to get wholesale prices as you cant until you have an abn
