Things are good here, if a bit boring - I like to be 'doing stuff'.
House sold ( we're living at the m-i-l's until we go ), money exchanged, shippers come on tuesday to take our stuff, flights booked ( 2nd sept ), we've got a months hotel - The Lakes in Cairns and a mths car hire booked - so hopefully we have plenty of time to arrange a rental and buy a car when we get there, Ste's last day at work is tomorrow and mine is 10 days away, so looking forward to spending lots of time with the nippers doing fun things,
generally can't wait to go and get on with it, I want my own home again and to get the nippers settled.
Bit worried about sorting out work for Steve and the licensing he needs, but have researched and contacted, so should be fairly straightforward.
Aboveall, have a 'positive' mind, as always, and will get through it all and be fine, just a small fear of the 'unknown' - even though i've been!
How 'bout you's? beer enough to change your mind?

Hope it all goes well leigh
I'm not sorted yet as we still don't know where to live or when to go
We are in no rush as I would like to sort out a decent job or decide whether to just retire.
Eventually we will probably just pick an area and settle for it.
Chaotic, I know. The beer will not really matter.
I may be on here for a year or two yet:scared:
Best wishes

It's a tough choice - whether to get a job or to retire - do provisions stretch enough to provide another 30 yrs of real ale?!
Whatever you decide, I'm sure it'll be the best thing for you and kate.
Best wishes and hugs,

This is the most depressing aspect of all for me.
I knew Australian pubs and beer were pretty awful but had forgotten how bad.
I went to a couple of decent pubs in Adelaide but apart from that found very little of inspiration.
Most pubs outside of towns are little more than post work meetimg places for men.
They are also expensive!
In fact we found all Alcohol expensive. To buy something like Coopers or squires in a pub would be at least 6 dollars and that is for a schooner (375ml I think).
The bottle shops wwere cheaper but still more than the UK. Even wine seemed to be more expensive. Very little under$15 a bottle worth drinking.
I could not bring myself to drink Tooheys and the like:scared:
Coopers is OK and I liked the stout but mainly drank Pale or sparkiling.
Sqires was OK in small doses and both the pilsner and Amber were OK. I am not sure how long I could tolerate it for.
Apart from the pubs there were the RSL clubs which varied a lot but , to be honest, were more like casinos than clubs. One,on the central coast had at least 1000 pokies and was filled with depressed looking, silent people pouring money into a machine
Don't know how I will cope with this.
May even have to go Teetotal:scared:
Help me out someone.

Strange how the old cliche of Brits missing "real" pubs is such a true statement. One of the reasons I left the place, at 30 years old I still crave a decent social life, not some morgue the size of a warehouse light with florescent tubes.
