Default Private Health

Hi, has anyone transferred a Uk private health insurance scheme to Oz on immigration. We have Bupa and our quote seems very high. If anyone could advise if we need lots of cover or has been through the process we would be grateful.

We had the option to transfer no problem however we ended up not doing it because it was more expensive. We could transfer to another Aus based one an have all waiting periods waived as we had pre existing cover, we chose not to do that as it was paid for perviously through work and here it wasn't so we got the most basic we were allowed and generally it pays out at 100% of GP and hospital visits.

HTH

Just an addition it probably seems high because it might be comprehensive wheras in Aus usually it isn't 100% covered, you usually pay some money on top...well esp for maternity you do! Hence it being less as you have to top up....

Have you talked with HBA (BUPA Australia)?

Try www.iselect.com.au which compares health cover requirements. Don't forget if you earn over a certain amount ($70k for a single person) you will be clobbered 1% for a medicare levy surcharge so its worth getting hospital cover to avoid the surcharge.

iSelect is NOT considered to be a reliable guide. The BEST way is to go to the websites of 3 or 4 companies and see what quotes you get.

Hi and thanks everyone for your replies. I have e-mailed HBA, need to know if we keep the status we have at present as OH has used his insurance a lot for a dodgey knee.
