Good, good. No meat in the VAT hypothesis.

Now lets see if we can dispatch the Oligopoly hypothesis.
Are you forgetting the guaranteed prices the EU offers its farmers to the dismay of the US and Australia?

ABCDiamond, you have to be happy with this ragging debate on meat, all from a conversation about banks and beef!

I guess these two things are close to Posters hearts.

I would hope it would also be to the dismay of the Brits who pay for it.

We travelled through France last year. The concept of inefficient French farmers is a joke. The corn was a high as an elephant's eye and the wheat fields streched forever. Reminded me of Australian wheat farms except that with better soil and more rain the crops were thicker. Must admit though I didn't see three headers stripping the wheat side by side. Not too many B doubles hauling it away either.

The French have convinced you guys they need subsidies. They look to me as if they are doing very well thank you and pocketing your taxes as well.

And now the Poles are going to have their hands out!!!!!

Maggie negotiated an opt out because of the lack of CAP payments to British farmers. The issue is a major topic considering the state and amount of East European farms that will join CAP. The mere mention of cutting CAP sends the French farmers frothing at the mouth, rioting and filling Paris with manure.
