Melbourne had a huge gas disruption the other year beacuse of an explosion at the gasworks. There was a lengthy interruption to gas supply.

Apart from losing power from a storm (which, lets face it, is hardly anything to do with a country being 3rd world!), I havent had a power cut since the unions/Joh showdown back in the 80s. I heard that there may have had to be load shedding last week, but it certainly didnt affect this area.

We had a power cut last night, during the night. Only notice it as the clock radio bleeped and went off. Must have been off for more than an hour and we are central NZ. Weather here awful.

Brisbane and Kalgoorlie and some WA sites have all had power cuts over night. The joys of being on call.

THAT was at least 5 years ago and it only affected the CBD.
I seem to remember it went on for about 1 month and it was caused by one of the 3 lines into the city being down for maintance when one of the other lines failed as well. Wasn't a total blackout just random power cuts.
Where I live in Brisbane I might get on average one power cut every 6 months, not exactly a big problem.
