Question Power Kiting????

Andy & myself are hopefully coming out to Perth by the end of 2005. Andy turned 40 in February and he has become a 'Power Kiter'. Midlife crisis? Madness? God only knows! Dangling, sometimes, only by a string the same as cotton (in my opinion!) I can only put it down to hormones :scared:

Are there any fellow kiters online? Let us know

Jayne

PS In addition, any 'Power Kiting' widows??

Hi, I am not a power kiter but have seen them about so wanted to let you know you won't be alone...

You will find however, that you will be restricted where you can go, but then that is similar to the UK....Are you a powe kiter or kitesurfer/buggy type person?

There are also quite a few forums dotted about www.kitepower.com.au which should help a bit...

Perth has a big kiting community, but it is more geared towards kitesurfing rather than flying kites on land.

Checkout www.seabreeze.com.au , the best resource going for kiting (or any wind sports) in WA.

At the moment access in Perth and WA is excellent with no major restrictions or bans in place. www.waksa.org.au is an association for kiters and well worth joining as they work tirelessly to keep beaches open for kiters as well as providing 3rd party insurance.

We have a power kite but unfortunately I can't remember what type it is without getting it out of its bag (it's still full of sand from Aberdovey beach in Wales - great place for kiting). All I know is it used to have four strings but we removed two of them because it kept ditching - so much for brakes. It's great as a workout for your upper body and arms but so hard to find somewhere with enough space to do it. We've never tried kite surfing or boarding, apparently it can be dangerous unless you get proper lessons from an expert. Also the amount of amazingly stupid people on the beach who walk under the kite strings when they can see there's a power kite above me has to be seen to be believed. More than once there've been near misses.
We'd love to go kiting in Australia and are going for a visit in August - anyone know if you can hire them? Not worth taking our own due to space constraints.
