Port Douglas Tours
Hi,
When we get to Port Douglas we want to go on a trip out to the barrier reef and a trip into the rain forest.
Can anyone recommend any?
The one I have been looking at is:
http://www.reefandrainforestconnecti...m/kuranda.html
They use Quicksilver tours for the barrier reef
Has anyone used these guys?
Cheers,
Martin

Re: Port Douglas Tours
Hi,
We were in Port Douglas this time last year and used these:
http://www.poseidon-cruises.com.au/
http://www.deluxesafaris.com.au/about.htm
Also did a hot air balloon flight combined with Skyrail/Kuranda etc
http://www.hotair.com.au/articles/27...pp/Page12.html
Would highly recommend all three, balloon flight is a bit scary if you have any problem with heights though
Merry Christmas,
C

Should have mentioned there are 4 adults and 1 5 year old child (2 adults wont be going into the water on the reef as they don't like fish!!)
Would it be better to go with one of the reef cruises that have the platforms as opposed to just a boat?

Think you may be better with Quicksiver then as Poseidon were all about the snorkelling/diving. I believe Quicksilver have more options for those who don't want to go into the water.

100% recommend the Quicksilver trip to the Low Isles... especially with the kids.
http://www.quicksilver-cruises.com/wavedancer.htm
The ones to the outer reef (platform) are a lot further out and once you are there... your there!
With the Low isles trip, you have the reef to view, a beautiful island to play and walk on, marine biologist that give talks about the reef and islands, snorkeling just of the island.
There is a scuba diving (introductory lesson) available.... recommend one goes AM (while one watches the kids) and the other PM?
Make sure you pre-book the scuba as places get full.
Also recommend you board the boat in Port Douglas as the Cairns pick up is something like an hour earlier.... OK if you like early starts... but with kids... I don't think so.
One other thing.... a mate of mine went to the platform on the outer reef. It was windy and there was no visibility in the ocean, so they just stood on the platform all day with nothing to do
A couple I recommended this trip to did on a round the world cruise on the Oriana and they said the Low Isles was the highlight of the cruise.
Recommend the Kuranda Railway (up) and the Cable car back down through the rain forrest.. better still, go to Cape Tribulation for the rain forrest... bit of a trek with kids though.
Good luck deciding.
Neil.

We did the Quicksilver trip but about 15 years ago. Good day out: they provide all the snorkelling and scuba equipment at the reef, and have a platform there to dive from. They also used to have a "submarine" for looking at the fish.

The Quicksilver is a fantastic day out to Agincourt Reef, the outer Barrier Reef . The day trip to Low Isles is also great..you can walk around the island and they used to have a 'Honesty Box' where you can get a cool drink and put your money in a box...I really enjoyed both those trips
