Shhhhh! Dont shout!
I expect Bix our resident expert on Cairns will be along later but I think most trades are subject to national awards so the area doesnt make any difference.

G'day Bruce.
Here's an idea of what's currently available......

Word on the street is that all trades are in demand here. Cairns is showing no sign of slowing like some other regions. There are some big developments going on besides loadsa house build stuff.
Check out the forum for what is required before you can work as a fully fledged plumber. As I understand it most tradies have to subbie on low wages when they first get here. Allow at least 6 months on basic wage before getting licences in place.
I don't know the actual wage a plumber would get here but it's a supply and demand situation. Chippes are earning 6 figures at the moment. How long that will last and how that relates across other trades I don't know.
If you can turn your hand to refridgeration as well that widens the field a great deal.
Can't find anything for nursery nurse but they may call it something else here. I think all preschools are run by a company called ABC.

Plumbers & sparkies are in big demand in far north QLD. There is still a massive task in repairing the cyclone damaged roofs in the whole area, not just Innisfail. With the wet season approaching, the tarped look in Innisfail is not a pretty sight
With all the other development/refurbishment in Cairns alone with office/resort/housing its boom time.
A planned Chinese backed bauxite (alumimim) mine up on Cape Yorke will just add to the pressure as Cairns will probably become the fly-in fly-out hub.
Nursery nurse is a childcare worker in OZ. Of the 24 or so centres in Cairns there are only a few that ABC dont own.
