Please answer Important Questions?
I have a few questions about newly arrived migrants in Australia under Subclass 175 GSM or 176 State Sponsored Skilled Visas.
1. What is waiting period for two years? Does this period applied on both Subclasses 175 &176 and does migrants are eligible to receive most social security payments? 2. Does social security payments includes i.e., rental assistance, education allowance, jobless allowance and children under 12 years allowance? 3. Does this mandatory for migrant to remain in the State or Territory for a period of at least two (2) years if he has SS subclass 176 visa? 4. What are complete surveys for Subclass SS 176 visa? Moderators please shed some lights on the above questions with their experience. Thanks Cheers |

Really appreciate such nice response showing your apprecitation for forum's visitors as well, your answer is not aggressive at all and it looks really that you can see that the poster wouldn't mean anything wrong.
Just a question. Thanks Romeosd |

Thanks Cheers In brief and as per my little experience, you are not entitled for any payments before completing 104 weeks as permanent resident in OZ, I am talking about subclass 175 because I know less about the 176. And below is the source of information you are looking for: http://www.centrelink.gov.au/ Thanks Romeosd |

Re: Please answer Important Questions?
I have to agree with wannabe in oz. I can't believe that you considering the benefits you can receive. It really irks me when immigrants have this attitude. And I am a little annoyed at how easily the Australian government gives out money to those that really don't deserve it and then taxes everyone else rather highly (compared to other countries). I am about to find out the extent of it when I return to live there this year.
For the record, I am an Aussie who immigrated to the Uk on an ancestry visa and then became a permanent resident. In the 4years that I had my ancestry visa I was told it was on the condition that I had no recourse on public funds. This did not bother me as I didn't rely on public funds when I lived in Australia so I had no reason to believe I needed any in the UK either. I worked my butt off and set up my own company with my husband and have made a go of it. I believe if you immigrate to a country you should be going because you are going to contribute to that countries economy not be a drain on it. |

Re: Please answer Important Questions?
Umm! Well maybe I am biased. There seems to be a couple of BE on here that don't really like Perth though God only knows why they are still there.
I love that it is a great place to raise your children. You don't necessarily have to have money to get out and do stuff in Perth with kids. I find it is a little harder to do that in the UK. Also if you get the chance Western Australia has some great places to explore both north and south of Perth. |

Re: Please answer Important Questions?
we hope to have a good look about in the 3 weeks we're there and try and cram as much in as possible for the kids but also try and get a look at schools and the work situation, not what benefits we may be able to get:rofl::rofl:

Just because someone asks a question about benefits, doesn't mean that they are a freeloader. |

I remember when I was about to come here, I also looked for all my options including the benefits. For me it was like looking for a last resort - just in case I don't get a job. Obviously migrants aren't allowed anything for first two years, so it didn't matter anyway. |

Just because someone asks a question about benefits, doesn't mean that they are a freeloader. For example, asking about the requierments of being president of OZ doesn't mean I am inteded to be, It is very normal question. And by any how, why to attack others for asking a question like that, it is something no breaking the site rules and it is a Legal benefit from the OZ goverment, so It would be better to send an inquiry to center link asking them why they are doing that and for sure they have answer for that question. Thanks Romeosd |
Re: Please answer Important Questions?
Dear Zenshin,
You got it totally wrong....Every migrant who is going to some other country should know all this...this poster never said he does not want to work or something like this ..but he wants all the knowledge... I am also AUS PR holder and even I am interested in all the benifits for what I am eliigible..this does not mean that I indent to drain the public funds. Its just that I should have knowledge .. You never know what's there is future..and what will come on the way..so knowledge is must... May be you were lucky and you worked your butt off and opened a new company..I appreciate that..but All people are no so lucky...They may face some unexpected situations in a country where they have just arrived and they may need help from that country for which they left their home land.. So please don't take it wrong...Poster and even I am also interested in the benfits those we can get when we arrive in the new country..afterall we all gonna contribute to that country's economy and growth...

Should we be theives, or beg in streets, or return back to our country after loosing all our money we brought it to OZ.
By understanding in advance that a PR visa holder will not get access to any unemployment assistance for a period of 2 years, it puts the onus on the immigrant to research the cost of food and housing and to ensure they have the funds in their bank account to support themselves independently for a worst case scenario of 2 yearys of unemployment. People should not 'gamble' with their futures by immigrating without having a clear plan for the 'worst case' scenario. Asking the questions that people are asking here is merely a way for them to do their full research in this regard. Good for them. Better then some who have not bothered to do their 'homework' only to come over to Australia and be completely disillusioned and returne to their country of origin with broken dreams. Plan for the worst, hope for the best. It's an age old proverb that servers as very good advise. |

Re: Please answer Important Questions?
Not sure if the laws have changed but we have a family friend who was Indonesian and in order for him to get into Australia with his 6 kids he had to have $500k sitting in a bank account before coming.
Surely if you are going to immigrate to a new country where you don't know if things will work out you should have some substantial savings behind you like at least a years wages and not use it as soon as you land. It would then also give you enough to go back should you feel it was not working out. I doubt you would call what I have been through in the UK with founding my own company as lucky. Luck does not come into it but sheer determination that I would not fail. We have hit every obstacle imaginable but found ways around it without resorting to public funds. My motto is "If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail!" Don't rely on social security to back you up but your own funds. |
