Pets ashes ????
#1
Hi were coming over to Perth end of aug cats sorted , shipping them , my question is we want to bring our old pets ashes with us , can't seem to find the criterior .... Called cat and dog export team they said call AUstralian embassy ?? They said not our department it's customs , they are based in Belgium called them not heard back grrr . What I have is letters off the crematorium to state when and where's etc .. but surley this can't be enough what if I was jo blogs stashing crack in the caskets . Surely this can't be all I need to take just paperwork from crematorium ..??.. My fear is to take caskets and be then told sorry you need this or that were confiscating them (got x2 dog boxes) and two cat ones ... my last poor old dog died 4 weeks ago ..... We put emmigrating on hold because of her ... The last thing I can cope with Is them cracking her box open to see what's in there .... Any adivce appreciated and no stupid comments to upset me .... Pretty delicate
,,,, it's getting pretty stressful this moving lark but hope it's worth it in the end

Someone asked this on here not long ago.
Answer: Oz authorities really don't care. Have them in a safely closed urn/jar. Then put them in your suitcase (not the hand luggage, but the hold luggage). No import docs needed.
You can mention it to customs when you arrive - but you will find it's of no interest to them.

I brought our dog in the casket in my case. Nothing was said about it.

Hiya,
We brought our lovely moggies to Oz in November. They coped far better than we could have hoped and now they have settled into their new home brilliantly. Best money we spent.
We also brought the ashes of our last and sadly departed furry friend. He travelled in the shipping container in a casket with some other soft things packed around to keep him safe. Nothing was said and he's also settled very well too!!!

We took our cats ashes in my hand luggage. I declared them and just had to let the customs officer check that the casket was sealed and wasn't infected with woodworm etc. She was really lovely and a cat lover, which helped!

We bought over all 4 of our dogs ashes. Make sure they are the last thing to be put in your container and you declare them. Ours were in sealed wooden caskets and I had visions of customs getting a crow bar to open them. We were told customs are more bothered by their containers..ours were wood and that the wood had to be treated.
Not a big issue at all.
