I'm looking in to getting a little 125 or 250cc motorbike to get to work on. I've calculated I'll save over $200 a month in fuel and parking costs.

Hubby loves being able to park outside his office in the CBD. They are however looking at starting to charge for bikes on City-link which will be a complete **** still reckon that it will be cheaper than the train and it knocks a good 30 mins off travel time each way. Watch out though I would reckon that it could get fairly sweaty in leathers up there

$1.24 yesterday. $1.39 today. Even taking into account the mid week rise that is one big jump in prices.

Apparently there are a lot of second hand 4WDs going on the market and demand for the big guzzlers is dropping.

My bike costs me $100 a month in fuel (as I do 100km per day).
Parking is free and city-link is (at the moment)

Train used to cost me $180 per month plus the additional fuel costs of driving 15 mins to the station (in the car)!

Even when city link do charge, it will be cheaper!

I drive past 4 petrol stations on my way to work. This morning the prices for unleaded were 128.4c, 132.4c, 135.9c, and 134.8.

between the highest and the lowest thats nearly $4 of a difference to fill my tank.

How can Shell (I'm naming and shaming :D) justify being 7c higher than Caltex for the same stuff ?

BP Beaumaris 138.9 - I went to Curranbine Woolworths because I had a voucher and got it for 129.9 - saving myself over $6.00 for a fill up.

If one looks closer at this alternative, the pitfalls start to come out, IE: the batteries have to be replaced after 10 years, the cost of that currently is over 8,000 AUD !!!!

The best alternative at present beleive it or not are still the small Diesels, like the Peugeot 306, which holds the world economy records in its class, at something around 65-70 MPG.

There are a few Toyota corollas being imported that are 100 pct electric, I havn't seen economy figures for these as of Yet.. Thats the area which is the true litmus test for Electric v Diesel.

Unfortunatly the cost of replacing batteries on Electric cars seems to be their undoing.

Hope someone reading can shed some more informed light on the above.
