Hi Lynn,
Not sure about the answer but have a look at this link to Currambine school and by contacting them you usually get a quick response.... My uncle in law is the principal but can't get hold of him right now to get direct answer

Question Re: perthites,a school catchment query

I wasn't aware that we even had catchment areas for Perth schools.

Sorry, not having English as my main language doesn't always help , call him an uncle, does it really matter .

And yes, schools have catchment areas, although usually kids can come from outside of the area if they have been in that school for a while, or their siblings are already at that school etc.

At the moment, it has been a hot issue here as people are buying property in the areas of the best high schools, when their kids are just starting primary, just so they can give their kids the best education.
Recent article was saying that because of this, some suburbs, and their house prices have gone up, thanks to the reputation of the local school.
There was a long story about it in West Australian only a week or so ago...

Hi Lynn
Many high school kids from Currambine go to Kinross College (it's a middle school but not in the same sense as Uk- they do up to year 10. After that if they stay on they usually go to Mindarie High which ONLY does Year 11 and 12) I believe Currambine kids can also go to Ocean Reef High. Sorry, not sure about Butler.
Cheers
Yvonne

Butler hasn't got it's own high school yet (due 2006ish i think!). The catchment high is indeed Clarkson, but you can apply to go elsewhere. There are also local private high schools, Irene McCormack, Peter Moyes (Kindy-Yr12), Quinns Baptist College (Kindy-Yr 12).

Hi Lynn,
Will probably get jumped on for this, but I definately wouldnt put my kids in Clarkson High School.
The one at Currambine is a junior school.
Also hear Ocean Reef has a bit of a bad reputation.............

My friend who is a teacher lives in Currambine and sends her daughter to Ocean Reef High. She really rates it and is pretty switched on as far as schools go.

And where are those 'good' areas/schools in the Northern Suburbs exactly?

Rossmoyne is the best example SOR.

Butler doesnt have a high school and the planned opening date for it is 2010, altough there is a push at the moment for a middle school to be built within the next 2 years, this would take up to year 10. The area of Currumbine bordering Burns Beach road would go to Kinross which again is a middle school after this they go to Mindarie Senior College. If you are in the other part of Currumbine then it is within the Ocean Reef catchment area. There are many private options within these areas too, although there may be waiting lists for some, all the private schools are affiliated to 1 particular religion although they will accept students who do not practice that particular religion subject to space being available.

As for which are good and which are not so good, it depends on what you are used to and compare them to.

Lynn
