We have been here in Perth for a year next week.
Perth is beautiful, but we are looking to go to Brisbane just because we feel theres more opportunities for us there, we felt it was a bit more vibrant etc...cant put your finger on it really, I got of the plane and felt that it was the "right place to be"... also having my bestest mate living there helped alot.
Just had our house valued here, and believe it or not we have made a lot of money here in one year that we can go there and actually have a better house for the same amount of money!!! hopefully convince my hubbie in the next few days and then we are off!!!
This is just my opinion and therefore you might have totally different feelings....saying that, Perth is very beautiful and people friendly, but just dont seem settled here......
sorry Perthiens

New South Wales (i.e. Sydney) received more than Queensland and Western Australia combined! These figures do quote immigrants from all countries but as you can see on one of the other tables that the Brits top the charts in immigration numbers anyway (with the Kiwis a close second).
Perhaps the long standing popularity of Sydney has contributed to the sharp rise in house prices, making Brits consider other cities now

I've never been able to get such current data from the ABS site.

Not been to Brisbane but been to Adelaide and Sydney and itf they are anything to go by I would definitely go for Brisbane.
Far more 'happening' and with it over the other side than in Perth. WA is beautiful but to laid back and in retirement stage for me.
Expensive due to where it is (apparently?) and full of flies.
Looking at that scale I think maybe people choose Perth/WA because it's housing is cheaper. That was one of our reasons. Maybe in the long run though if job opportunities are better over East then head that way.
