Default Perth info?

Having made my mind up to go to Australia, i now need to decide on a City/Town

Straight from the start i was drawn to Perth for some reason?

I have read alot of good things about Perth, but on the negatives i have read that there are more break ins and general theft in Perth, than any other City!

And also is the fact that Perth is on the West of OZ, away from other major cities a problem?

just need some feedback please.

If you use the search facility you will find heaps of info on Perth, but heres a few comments for you as a start off.
Have lived in Perth on and off for about 10 years now. I find personally it has changed recently, and is a lot busier and expensive than it used to be (most of this has occurred in the last 2 years).
Perth does get very hot, although its a drier heat than QLD. Expect days where it will hit the 40s. Winter tends to be cool and rainy. There are break ins etc here, but it does happen everywhere in Oz, cities are always going to have more crime. I havent experienced other places in Oz so cant comment if we are worse here, however I have heard some people state this is the case.
Perth is remote, the eastern states are like 4-5 hours plane ride away, air fare to Melbourne is approx $170. We dont like the remoteness, which is why we are moving interstate in July.
Perth is a beautiful city, has great beaches, people are generally friendly. It is expensive though, food and housing seems to be more expensive than most of Oz. Lots of jobs here. Lots of new houses. Fairly low on culture.

Hope that helps x
