perth from brisbane
Hello everyone,
Im looking for some advice if possible .My wife and I,and our two sons age 12 and8 are moving to Perth from Brisbane in the next few months. We have been in Brisbane just over a year but we just dont like it. Anyway we are moving to Perth and are looking for advice regarding suburbs ,schools etc. Also if anyone has info on getting our furniture to Perth, costs. We also have to get the car to Perth so any info on that, would it be too much of a drive?. Does anyone know about Stirling or Scarborough. We have to be 20 min max from the CBD and hope to be 5-10 min walk from beach. We had no advice coming to Brisbane and are staying in a predominantly asian community,we would rather not make this mistake in Perth. Any info will be greatly appreciated.l |

What dont you like about Brissie? In Perth we looked around Joondaloop north of the river and rockingham on the south side. I suppose it all depends what your after, but Im sure some Perth people will fill you in. I once had a list of places to avoid from somebody, I shall look into it and if I find it I shall PM it to you. MF |

Re: perth from brisbane
Don't know anything about Perth so unable to help you in that department. However I am sure there are some who will wake at a reasonable hour here in Aus and share info with you:)
As for not wanting to live in a predominantly Asian community. Why was this a problem? I presume it's a cultural thing where you don't feel you fit in? It is sometimes difficult if you find the people nice but the culture different as sometimes you are not easily accepted into their fold either. Good luck with your next move....and all the best for your future:) |

Re: perth from brisbane
If you want to live within 20mins of the CBD and a 5 min stroll to the beach, be prepared to part with some serious cash. You won't get much change out of $900k in the nice suburbs, and thats if you can actually find a house for sale! We know people who really wanted to buy a house in Floreat.....not a hope. Houses up for sale are a bit like hens teeth.
Scarborough: backpackers haven. Plenty of nice areas ocean side around Perth, but you'll have to travel a bit longer to work: Mindarie, Iluka, Ocean Reef, Hilarys, Mullaloo, Kallaroo to name but a few. Happy hunting. :) P.s Being nosey now....why don't you like Brisbane? Anything specific? There are folks who aren't too fussed with Perth and looking to move to Brisbane!! ;) |

I am assuming here, and the writer of that post can correct me, but I think it was the comments made with regards to not wanting to make the same mistake by living with asians again. Probably not the best remark to make. I am playing devils advocate here, but I suppose its like an Australian saying 'I would like to move because I dont want to live near English people'. I may be wrong, but just a guess. |

I don't think it had anything to do with the original post at all. I could be wrong however. |

I could be wrong however. In full agreement that that poster does appear to be a professional knob cheese. Although, I wouldnt have posted those comments about Asians either as I I have had exactly the same said to me referring to my Arab husband in the lines of 'I wouldnt want to live near arabs' or something similar. Some things are better left unsaid I suppose. |

That is not the same and you know it. The OP would be pretty pissed off in Australia if some Aussies said 'I dont want to live near English people'. To say they dont want to make the same mistakes again by living near Asians is not the same as your comment in the slightest. But then again, I suppose it would be different if it were the other way around and people didnt want to live near her because of her ethnic background. |
Re: perth from brisbane
sorry if that wound you up PP i didnt do it to upset you.
but i do tend to make light of almost any situation ( perhaps its my way of dealing with things )

I have been reading this website for the past year, and still deliberating whether to take the leap to Oz or not. BUT on the responses that some people give to the threads on this website, I think I would prefer to stay here!
People are asking for genuine advice - take this thread for instance - and there are some inappropriate responses! What is wrong with asking for a community (i.e Asians, non Asians) surely it is personal choice. If you relocate in the UK to another city I would ask the same question! It doesn't make me racist! If an Asian asked for an Asian community would you have given the same response!!! The more I read this website, the madder I get - give the poor "new comers" a start, you have all relocated to a new life but you still seem bitter and twisted in your comments. I apologise for my comments to the genuine BE members. |
